Accounting and Finance

Business owners intuitively know that the business must bring in sufficient profit to make it worthwhile, but some may not know enough about accounting and finance (or even fear it!) to know how to get there. I can show them the way - I help business owners and management make sense of their accounting data and make sound financial decisions for their businesses.

I have a business owner's mindset because of my background as a value investor focused on business fundamentals - I can see how the actions of individuals within a business contribute to increasing the value of the business. With years of industry experience in sales and operations, I understand how real businesses operate, the importance of sales and how operations deliver the products and services to the customer. In addition, I am highly proficient with technology and can bring insights that many businesses in non-IT industries miss.

Too many accountants are good with numbers but can't see the forest for the trees. I believe having a business owner's mindset, a good grasp of sales and operations and being technologically savvy positions me well to help you analyse your company's finances and provide useful insights and actionable recommendations to help you make good business decisions.

Sales and Marketing

Sales solves everything. If you don't sell - that means that you haven't (1) created or provided something of value (2) that other people want or need (3) at a price they’re willing to pay - and that means you don't have a business. Even if you can sell a valuable product or service, there is always room for improvement.

Behavioural psychology is a fascinating area has influenced my thinking on sales and marketing. Economists say that people are rational, but research has shown that people are predictably irrational. I enjoy developing sales and marketing strategies that utilises proven psychological techniques to influence and persuade prospects to make decisions in our favour. 

Even though your customers may be predictably irrational, you need to rationally analyse your sales and marketing efforts. As a scientist, I am a fan of analytics (using statistics to analyse critical metrics) and micro/split-testing. With my expertise, I can help you figure out a sales and marketing strategy that works and work on improving them.

Operations

After you have made the sale, you still need to deliver the product or service in a way that satisfies the customer’s needs and expectations. That is my operational expertise comes in.

The costs of your products may have decreased with globalisation, but long and extensive global supply chains require you to have a good supply chain management system in place to manage the flow of goods and information. I can help you put that system in place, test it and optimise it so that your business can withstand shocks to the supply chain.

Another important part of satisfying the customer's needs and expectations is quality management. Even if you do not want or need ISO 9001 certification, you can still use the same quality management systems and principles from my ISO 9001 quality management experience to control the quality of your products and services and improve the effectiveness of your business operations.

Technology

Many businesses use technology as tools simply to get the job done. But technology can be much more than that and make your business much more effective and efficient. Used wrongly, however, technology can bring a business to its knees.

I am not an IT consultant and I'm not here to sell you any particular hardware, software or service. I am here to help you translate the languages of technology and understand how you can use technology to run your business more effectively and efficiently. My goal is simply to help you build a better business.
